It’s been a busy and exciting season for us! First we opened for Pharis and Jason Romero at the Oak Bay United Church for the Old Time Tidal Wave Festival in Victoria. There was such good sound in the church- by far the best we’ve had yet, and it was a real pleasure to sing to an attentive sold-out show.
We then had a fabulous tour to Vancouver and the Kootenays where we played a house concert in Nelson and at the Memorial Hall in Silverton.
It was so beautiful and hot that week-end, and many people came out to see us! It was amazing to have the Nelson house concert sold out!! And lots of great musicians came out to jam after. The drive through the mountains was spectacular and the lake was beautiful, if freezing! We had such marvelous hosts- it made us so grateful to be so well looked after!
We played as well at the Garden Festival downtown Nelson taking in the plants and people. Thanks to the Kootenay Co-op Radio Station for playing the album and interviewing Gen (her first interview!) We love the Kootenays!!
July was busy with more festivals: the Islands Folk Festival, Comox Nautical Days, Summer Nights on Lake Cowichan and 39 Days of July. It’s been great to get more exposure and experience playing on a variety of stages and configurations. We really like playing to a single mic we discovered, but that it’s not always possible to make it work due to feedback. All learning and growing and getting better.
On a side note, Gen played her first political rally at the Legislature in Victoria, making her officially a folk-singer. She wrote a song called “Where does it go?” in support of the Shawnigan Watershed that is threatened with a contaminated waste dump site. Of all the places to put soils full of heavy metals and toxins, at the top of the village’s watershed is not one of them.
So wrapping this post up brings us to the big news………. we are officially going into the studio with Wynn Gogol in October, which we are really excited about. We will record a full-length album- 12 songs probably- and will have at least one or two guest musicians on it. We will spend September prepping and polishing and applying for a Canada Council Grant. Wish us luck!! And we will launch an Indigogo campaign for pre-sales as well so look for that too!
It’s so wonderful to hear of all your musical travels and opportunities~ lots of love!
This was all so exciting to read…and best wishes for your upcoming new album: can’t wait to buy a copy. Sheila G
